Type Locality and Naming

Along the village of Kofrun, Surkhandarya depression. Yu.R. Smolnikov et al., 1971.

Synonym: Kofrun Suite, Кофрунская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Interbedded gray, brown, and reddish-brown sandstones, siltstone (aleurolites), and clays. In the southwestern end of the Babatag ridge, interlayers of gravelites and conglomerates. Thickness 100-688m.


Lithology Pattern: 
Fine-grained sandstone


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably overlies the Baysun-Neog Fm

Upper contact

It is overlain with erosion by the Yamchin Fm

Regional extent

Baysun and Surkhandarya depressions. B.I. Pinhasov correlates it with the Bahmaltepin Fm of Fergana.
